High Post provides an enjoyable and challenging test for golfers of every level, requiring strategic thinking as well as some power and finesse
Named after the site of an ancient gallows
Founded in 1922 the course is located on free-draining Chalk Downland which means the course is playable all year round on full greens with few closure days.
Course Overview
Described in Today’s Golfer: Owing to the chalk Downland and free draining terrain, it is playable all year round – winter tees and greens just don’t exist at High Post which has a reputation for being one of the finest Downland layouts in the land.
The Course provides an enjoyable and challenging test for golfers of every level, requiring strategic thinking as well as some power and finesse.
Many of the original features of the Hawtree and Taylor design, most notably the bunkers, the disguised grassy hollows and subtle greens to die for, are still evident today.
The opening 3 holes, usually played with the wind, get you off to a flying start, the 9th was Peter Alliss’ favourite hole, the closing 3 holes, including 16th, a par 4, Stroke Index 2, provide a tough finish.
